Road to better Black and White Photography!
Shooting color photography is great, but black and white photography always bring a new way to look at the photos. Black and white photography is not only removing color from a photo, but it's also a whole new way to view the photos. There was a time before 1960 (first colored photo taken in 1861) when it is the only way to capture. But there is something magical about this category its brings emotion in regular photos.
B&W Photography Tips:
1 Get Inspired:
Black and white photography is not only removing color from a scene. You have to know why you want to shoot in B&W, so don't get out with your camera if you haven't any interest in the B&W shooting.
You must look at old black and white photography and movies for greater inspiration. Back then the peoples ware limited with there technology so they took fantastic shots.
2 Highlight the Contrast:
The high contrast ratio in the color photo is often discouraging, but black and white photography is only about two opposite colors and there is no shade of red, gray, blue we have to play with contrast. We have to create photos like the smooth gradation of tone from deepest black, through the shade of gray and up to brightest white.
3 Express emotion:
Black and White photography not just removing color from photos it's about expressing the emotion, storytelling, and lighting the subject where color is not distracting.
Focus on the eye and expression when taking a black and white portrait. Took every detail from your subject face. Feel the viewer the way your subject feeling.
“One sees differently with color photography than black-and-white… in short, visualization must be modified by the specific nature of the equipment and materials being used.”
- Ansel Adams
